We woke up from our brief 45-minute slumber at 12:45 am, feeling groggy and weary. Within just 20 minutes, we were hurtling down the highway at speeds of up to 140 kmph. The driver’s reckless manoeuvres on the hairpin turns, tires screeching, left us on edge.

After enduring a grueling four-hour journey, during which three of our companions succumbed to bouts of nausea, we finally arrived at Ramechap Airport. Unlike any airport I had ever seen, it exuded a laid-back atmosphere, with a mere 50 or so staff, including the police. We could practically stroll along the runway!

The check-in process was swift and hassle-free. They quickly assessed our baggage weight, ensuring it fell within the 10 kg and 5 kg carry-on limits, and stamped our bags. This was followed by an open inspection of our belongings for security purposes.
Once cleared, we eagerly awaited our flight, with a decent toilet available for those needing relief before the thrilling 30-minute journey ahead. The flights from Ramechap to Lukla operated frequently, and our tour operator had already secured our tickets. I even managed to capture a short video of the entire flight.
Before boarding the plane, we took a group photo, capturing the excitement building within us. The roar of the engines was deafening, but the takeoff was remarkably smooth. What a sight greeted us from above! Nepal’s lush green landscape stretched out beneath us, and the famous mountain peaks sparkled brilliantly in the morning sun.

I must admit, I felt apprehensive about the landing, given the online discussions surrounding it. However, to our delight, the pilot executed a flawless, butter-smooth landing, earning a perfect 10/10. Stepping off the plane, we were greeted by a sight I had never before witnessed. You’ll have to see it for yourself.

Without delay, we collected our luggage and made our way to the lodge, where our Sherpas would continue with the 10 kg bags. The lodge provided us with hot water, immaculate toilets, and a variety of breakfast options. We also had the pleasure of meeting two adorable dogs.

Within 45 minutes, we were all geared up and ready to embark on day one of our 12-day trek. We soon found ourselves awaiting our Sangmatha trek passes, while our guides handled the paperwork. During this time, we socialized within the group, fostering camaraderie.
After another 45 minutes, our paperwork was completed, and we were prepared to trek for approximately three hours, as instructed. The journey proved relatively easy, with minimal uphill climbs. We ascended a considerable elevation of 500 feet, encountering breathtaking vistas and immersive sounds along the way.
At the halfway point, we stopped at a cozy café to savor hot noodle soup and garlic soup, rejuvenating ourselves as the wind grew chillier and the sky clouded over. Continuing onward, we alternated between walking east and pausing at picturesque spots to catch our breath.
Around one hour before reaching our first destination, Phakding, a gentle drizzle welcomed us. Thankfully, our trusty ponchos came to the rescue, shielding us from the rain. See the pic for proof!
Finally, we reached our lodging, exhausted yet exhilarated. We promptly ordered steaming hot food, changed into fresh clothes, and retired to bed at 5 pm. Dinner hours in this part of the world concluded early, and to our dismay, we missed the timing. However, I hurried to the lobby, requesting a takeaway club sandwich and apple pie for Anusha, who was sound asleep. In case she awakens hungry in the middle of the night. I then tucked myself under the thick blanket, super excited that we were a day closer to the Everest Base Camp!
